Yukon College’s Environmental Monitoring Certificate Program equips students with the technical skills and relevant knowledge to conduct environmental monitoring tasks in various settings and with a northern and indigenous focus. The program will be delivered in remote camps and community locations in a series of nine to seventeen-day course modules.

Duties:  

  • Teaching experiential, land-based courses and developing related teaching materials;
  • Facilitating student groups working on assignments and other course material;
  • Maintaining field safety and professional standards;
  • Working with local First Nations to incorporate Traditional Knowledge and land stewardship concepts into course content;
  • Assisting the lead instructor with other tasks related to course logistics;

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or B.Sc. in Environmental Science or similar field;
  • Experience conducting or teaching Environmental Monitoring activities in the North;
  • Knowledge of First Nation land stewardship concepts and Traditional Knowledge;
  • Experience with the Yukon environmental regulatory regime;
  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s licence, or valid class 5 Driver’s Licence and willingness to obtain a Class 4 Driver’s Licence;
  • Valid First Aid Certification (preference for Wilderness First Aid);
  • Experience in experiential and land-based learning is considered an asset;
  • FAC, Pleasure Craft Operator Card, Industrial ATV certification are considered an asset;
