Financial Awards

We can help you achieve your educational goals. A lack of financial support can be a barrier. Yukon College and our donors understand the value of an education. That's why we offer several financial awards to help support your educational and living costs. There are three types of awards:

Scholarship: A scholarship is given in recognition of academic excellence.

Bursary: A bursary is given based on demonstrated financial need.

Award: An award is a general category that may include a number of criteria such as community contributions, leadership, extra-curricular activities, academic achievement or financial need, among others.

All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.

How to apply

To apply for any award or for multiple awards, there is a single application and waiver. Students will complete ONE application and waiver, identify the awards to which they are applying, and submit any additional application materials separately.

Aurora Geosciences Award: $1,000

With offices in Yellowknife, Whitehorse and Juneau, Aurora Geosciences delivers applied geosciences and exploration support services with northern savvy and innovative drive. Our client base covers companies and governments engaged in mineral exploration, oil and gas exploration, and engineering.

As part of their commitment to Yukon and Yukoners, Aurora Geosciences would like to provide a $1,000 award to a Yukon student enrolled full-time in the Geological Technology diploma program. The applicant could be enrolled in either year of the two-year program.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• be Canadian citizens or permanent residents;
• be registered in the Geological Technology Diploma program;
• currently be an active community volunteer, and provide a letter outlining your responsibilities, the date you started working with the organization and the hours worked with the organization – weekly, monthly or total since starting;
• provide a 500 word piece describing your interest in and future plans with geology. How do you plan to be involved in the industry?

Selection Criteria

• Ability to meet above mandatory criteria;
• The level of volunteer engagement;
• Interest in and future plans with geology. Precedence will go to students with plans for working in mineral exploration.
• Asset to be a member of sports team or arts association
