Financial Awards

We can help you achieve your educational goals. A lack of financial support can be a barrier. Yukon College and our donors understand the value of an education. That's why we offer several financial awards to help support your educational and living costs. There are three types of awards:

Scholarship: A scholarship is given in recognition of academic excellence.

Bursary: A bursary is given based on demonstrated financial need.

Award: An award is a general category that may include a number of criteria such as community contributions, leadership, extra-curricular activities, academic achievement or financial need, among others.

All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.

How to apply

To apply for any award or for multiple awards, there is a single application and waiver. Students will complete ONE application and waiver, identify the awards to which they are applying, and submit any additional application materials separately.

Terry Weninger Award for Research: $500
Application Deadline: Friday, September 29, 2017

Dr. Terry Weininger would like to make a $500 award available to an aspiring researcher. Dr. Weninger was President at Yukon College from 2006-2011. He has also been President at College of New Caledonia in Prince George from 1990-2004, Deputy Minister of Education in Yukon, and Vice-President at Medicine Hat College. Dr. Weninger spent much of his career in education, with completion of a Bachelor and Master of Education, a Doctoral degree - Ed.D. - from Arizona State University and post-doctoral studies from the University of Washington. 
Eligibility criteria:
  •  Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time Yukon College student in a post-secondary program;
  •  Must be in the second year of a two-year program or continuing from one post-secondary program into another;
  • Provide approx. 200 words detailing research you have undertaken in the past year and how it relates to your program of study;
  •  a supporting letter from a Yukon College faculty member.
